about

„Recording multi-layered guitar pieces, originally on tape machines, goes way back for me. While all improvised and solo parts where done in a strict first-take-only manner I put a lot of effort in recording arrays of accompanying parts highlighting different aspects of the original idea. Basic tracks of each selection were done first thing in the morning with little stilistic intention, e.g. when laying down some bass to this weird drum track I had no idea that I would instantaneously be drawn into a version of ‚Big Nick‘. Most takes were recorded within a couple of weeks, with additional re-shuffling of ideas happening after some time away from the project and some feedback from friends in two compact phases. ‚MayD‘ started out as a pandemic filesharing duo with some electric bass added as an afterthought. ‚hier & als auch‘ utilizes multiple audio from the 1981 solo LP of the same name (FMP 0880) recorded via manipulated record player and combined with a current improvised track. All for the love of subtle musical nonsense“

press digest:

(Rigobert Dittmann, Bad Alchemy #116: 33)

(Jacek Brun, Jazz-Fun, Okt 2022)

„Search & Rescue is a PHENOMENAL recording. I’ve followed you for many years now, saw Grid Mesh in Philadelphia and was knocked out by that, but this new recording has so much that is wonderful - fabulous sounds, perfectly mixed so it constitutes a compelling aural universe."
(Hal Dean, email, 19 Oct 2022)

"What makes this disc so great is the way that Mr. Willers took his time to add all sorts of different parts to each piece, making these pieces more complete and filled with odd surprises and/or juxtapositions. Although certain pieces are chopped up at times, Willers has thought of ways to connect all of the parts into more focused, fleshed out conclusions. An extraordinary attempt to do much more than just a solo electric guitar offering."
(Bruce Lee Gallanter, Downtown Music Gallery, Newsletter 11 Nov 2022)

(Alexander Schmitz, Jazz Podium 11/2022: 52)
